Faculty Services at East Falls

A general guide for East Falls faculty regarding Gutman Library support and services.

What is information literacy instruction?

Information Literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information. In an academic setting, students use information literacy when completing research assignments such as research papers, research presentations, bibliographies, annotated bibliographies, literature reviews, original research, and more.

Information literacy instruction is a service offered by librarians to teach information literacy skills to students so they are equipped to successfully complete research assignments and better navigate the world of information. Academic librarians are guided by the Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.

How can I request to collaborate with a librarian to provide information literacy instruction for my course?

First, identify the librarian that liaises with the school or college in which your course is situated. You can find this information on the Staff Directory. After you identify your liaison librarian, reach out to them via email to request information literacy instruction.
