Google and Google Scholar Tips

From Google, there is no effective way to link to library resources.  To check on what the library does have, try one or more of the following:

Phrase searching – enclose phrases in quotes 

  “time management”  --              "fashion forward"

Ways to get to the Advanced Search page (to narrow down search results)

Go directly to www.google.com/advanced_search.

• Click gear icon at top right of search results page > Advanced Search

How the Advanced Search page works

1. Enter your search terms in the “Find pages with” section.
2. Choose filters you want to use in “Then narrow your results by” section. You can use one or more filters.
3. Click Advanced Search.  

• Language
• Region
• Last updated date
• Site or domain
• Where the search terms appear on the page
• SafeSearch
• Reading level
• File type
• Usage rights
