What's Happening to the 4th Floor?

What's New - Expanded Archives & Special Collections

When the elevator doors open onto the 4th floor, you will think you've entered an entirely new library! The Siegman Archives will instantly welcome you to a warm, bright, inviting space.

A glass, soundproof wall will provide a quiet separation between The Siegman Archives and the rest of the 4th floor, which will remain a quiet space for individual study.

The Archives will include an impressive and welcoming entryway (The Entrance), a lecture space (The Forum), two rooms equipped with tables and chairs for individual or group research (the Research Room, the Work Room), rotating exhibition space (the Medicine Cabinet), and a storage system (the Vault). The renovation will also include designated rooms for Archives staff. Check out the Renderings section of this guide (left) for helpful visual depictions of each reimagined area.

What's Staying the Same

Everything else! The remaining space on the 4th floor will be arranged similarly to its current construction:

  • The 4th floor will remain a quiet floor
  •  Individual study desks and wireless computers will be available on the floor

All library services, including study rooms, librarian consultations, and resource access, will remain unaffected during the project.
